Sky… the final frontier… these are the members… no wait, too cheesy. Let’s start over.

Since our last update where we made our stand against our toughest encounters to date, Fright and Dread, each boasting 32k hp, resistant to all of our spells except lures, and also AoEs and Death touches picking off unexpected gnomes one at a time, we’ve comfortably added about a dozen more raids under our belts, continually gearing our raiding force with planar gear, epic drops and pushing our limits as an old world end game raiding guild.

Plane of Sky was a zone that many wanted to see and try as a guild capped at level 52 to see if we would be rewarded with the challenge we were looking for. In our first attempt, we began it slow, trying to remember what the quest pieces that dropped would make, and how to key everybody from Isle 1 to 2 without leaving anyone behind. Our strategy for the Azaracks on Isle 2… was just to survive, however we found out the hard way that 7 Azaracks will always trump 24 Vintage members. We took it as a lesson learned and in the week thereafter we came up with a different strategy and more tanks, more gnomes and of course, more coffins! Our second attempt on the isle was a lot smoother as we were able to defeat the Azaracks one or two at a time, defeated the Protector of Sky and moved on to Isle 3. Our journey ended there, at the boss of Isle 3 as we were not able to split the last mobs and decided we would return one day in the future for our revenge.

During the rest of the days when we were not in Plane of Sky, many raids were organized around Plane of Hate, Phinigel Autropos, Lord Nagafen and Lady Vox. Lots of gear, lots of banked epic pieces and lots of rotting gear as the majority of our members are completing their planar sets and more.

With the new expansion being released in less than a week, and Naggy and Vox attempts requiring less people now (down to 15 from 28), we are more confident than ever that we’re ready for the new challenges that await ahead in the Ruins of Kunark!

See you on the boats to The Overthere and Firiona Vie. Tickets are on sale now!

Golems Fall… Kunark Release Date Announced!

This weekend, Vintage accomplished two new First Kills as we bring down the Death-touching Golems, Dread and Fright in Plane of Fear. After a full day of clearing Fear on Saturday, we made two attempts on Terror. On the first attempt, we lost half of our raid on the pull as his AOE sent in our pets and then another AOE wave took out their rightful owners. We still managed to get him to 30% and we were confident that we would be able to take him down with our full force behind the attack. The next attempt however had a bad pull and even more died. We decided to get some rest and take them down on Day 2 of our weekend Fear raid.

On Sunday, we cleared the zone again and attempted the two golems that were still standing, Fright and Dread. This time, we came reloaded with more tanks and a better pull and positioning strategy, and laid the golems to rest easily. Congratulations to everyone there this weekend on two more First Kills for the guild! Unfortunately for us, someone must have realized we had cleared the zone the night before and took out Terror, so we’ll have to come back for him on a later date.

No screenshots were taken of this event, however I had drawn out our strategy days before the raid, which has an accurate depiction of what occurred on Sunday evening.

*Artist’s Note: It might look like we zerged it… but it’s only because I included people who were not at the raid, so this way no one gets left out of our guild accomplishment!

Kunark Release Date Announced!

After defeating the Golems in Fear this weekend, we’ve checked off another huge milestone of our goals in the classic era. Some of the guildies who were working hard to catch up have caught up or will in the next week or two, so it seems the majority of our guild is ready to see a new continent, raid new zones and bosses, while still revisiting Hate/Fear/Sky for epics and gear.

Originally, we had planned an April 1st Kunark Date, but realized that could be a bad April Fool’s joke for those who seriously want to start going to Kunark zones! Then after looking at the schedule for the month, it seemed fitting that we start our new era the same way we started our transition period, after the deaths of Naggy and Vox.

So, on April 3rd, we’re planning on our final double dragon raids, and afterwards we’re opening up all of the zones in the Kunark Expansion. All gear that is not from a Kunark raid mob or Veeshan’s Peak will be allowed. Gear and items from raid mobs will be available to our members as we defeat each of those encounters as we have been doing in our current era.

Congratulations Vintage on a successful run so far, and we look forward to more raids and more fun in Kunark and beyond!

Have the Mobs Run Out of Good Loot?

Vintage gathered it’s forces Saturday afternoon to take out our favorite targets again, Vox and Naggy. After a speedy encounter with both, we were disappointed with the loot they had on them this time and decided we would try our luck gearing our members in Fear and making another attempt at the Golems. Unfortunately for us, over five hours of clearing everything in Fear, we only received a handful of items as well. The encounter on the Golem, Fright, was pulled out of range of our healers and we were not able to get a real attempt in before we were CRing and calling the raid over. It had been a long day for us, however our mobilizing has been improving by the raid and it looks like we won’t have any problems pulling off a double dragon clear this Thursday Night!
